The Story Of 3 Amazing Geneva Support Workers

There is nothing more rewarding than knowing that what we do makes a real difference in the lives of others, so receiving a beautiful letter from one of our Client’s next of kin is extra special.  We are so pleased to share her letter below.

We also want to thank all our Geneva Carers who put their heart and soul into their work, and to our Clients who inspire us every day with their stories, strength and resilience.

Her letter reads…

I wish to comment on 3 carers who came and looked after my mum before she passed away.

Firstly Sharlene –  Sharlene had such a lovely caring manner and would always make the effort to get a smile or a laugh out of mum especially as mum’s willingness to communicate became less.  Her interaction with mum was absolutely delightful and I know mum looked forward to her coming.  I did not witness much of her caring as I was mostly at work when she was here but I got really good feedback about her willingness to fully participate in mum’s cares e.g. her willingness to take turns with the actual showering of mum and dealing with her incontinence.  Please forward my huge thanks to Sharlene for being such a happy, fun friend for mum.

Secondly Kim – Kim also had the same lovely caring manner with mum and interacted very well. Kim also excelled in pampering mum and I could feel mum purring with happiness when Kim was attending to her.  Feedback also confirmed that Kim was very willing to take turns with showering and the less pleasant tasks associated with incontinence.  Please also forward my huge thanks to Kim for the love she showed mum.

Last but by no means least, Anita – Anita cared for mum before she joined Geneva  and continued in such a way that I could really feel that mum was in totally safe hands when I was at work.  She guided the other caregivers with a skill that she should be really proud of.  She spent a lot of time with mum and became very attuned to mum’s health and mood issues and I felt very happy if she discussed her concerns with me as with most things two heads are better than one and her experiences are different to mine (as a nurse).  She had a wonderful way of involving mum in her decision making e.g. what clothes to wear; and mum really appreciated the time and effort that she put in those cares which could so easily have been done in a clinical way.  She also had a wonderful ability to make mum feel special and important.  Mum was very aware of what was going on around her although she didn’t express this and I know she really valued the respect and dignity shown to her by Anita.  I could not have asked for a better caregiver!

All these caregivers enabled mum’s last months to be a happy time of her life despite her circumstances and I want you to know the star qualities they showed to Mum.

Thank you.
