Private Caregivers: Tax Changes Lead To Calls For Better Support
From July 2008 a new tax change comes into effect for private caregivers providing services to clients of the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).
While these services have always been taxable, many carers have not realised they were required to pay tax on payments received from ACC.
From July 1st 2008, ACC, at the request of Inland Revenue, will deduct 15 per cent withholding tax from all payments to private carers. Previously, it was up to the individuals to make their own tax arrangements.
Private caregivers provide a range of essential services to ACC such as attendant care, childcare, home help, transport and training to gain independence.
To assist in making the new tax changes as simple as possible, New Zealand’s leading healthcare employment agency, Geneva Health, can assist carers with a lot more. As well as managing their pay and tax, Geneva can offer carers sick pay and annual leave, respite care, professional development and ongoing personalised support.
“Geneva Health is a strong advocate for quality services within the home and we look forward to supporting the private caregivers within our community,” says Jo Wallis, CEO Geneva Health.
